My nose is definitely one of my biggest insecurities. It looks a bit deviated in pictures as it is wide. There are these bumps, I guess, on the sides or excessive cartilage? Not sure. Overall, the nose just isn't defined and when I smile, there is no bridge and the nose droops down. Is there a simulation that can show me what is possible with a rhinoplasty? I also scar easily so that's also something that's been holding me back from going through with a surgery. Thank you!

While it's hard to give a full evaluation without full side views, from your photos, you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. The tip can be made thinner and lifted up to be shorter. The bumps can be smoothed out as well. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.

Thank you for this question. Creating a nose that fits with the rest of the face is a primary and essential goal of rhinoplasty. In your case, I recommend a face-to-face consultation and use computer simulation to determine your goals for your desires nose appearance. That helps both you and the surgeon better understand your face and the nose's relation to the rest of your face. Based on the photos, it looks like augmentation of the high nasal bridge with reduction of the width of the nose at the mid and lower aspects will help to create an ideal shape. Reduction in the width of the nostrils, reduction of the thickness of the skin / underlying SMAS tissue, addition of cartilage define the nasal tip will likely be able to give you the look you are seeking. Based on your photos, you appear to have relatively thick nasal skin with a wide nasal appearance and a droopy tip. You are correct that you can see portions of your tip cartilage through your skin. A closed rhinoplasty approach can accomplish narrowing your nose from the front and shaving down the dorsal hump from the side profile. All of the incisions are placed on the inside of the nose. An alar-plasty can address narrowing your wide nostrils and those incisions are usually placed inconspicuously at the base of the nostrils. It's important to release the depressor septi ligament which dynamically pulls your nasal tip downward when smiling. Thick skin in the tip of the nose is going to prevent refinement in that area, so it is important to have realistic expectations. Digital computer imaging of your nose upon your facial features would also be helpful in the education process to understand what can be accomplished with your nose upon your facial features. Rhinoplasty is the most difficult operation to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so to choose your surgeon wisely based on extensive experience
