How long after BA (above muscle) to start running?

Question

I would like to know what the recommended time after BA to start slowly back into exercise? Running especially, I will start out walking first, I don't want anything to happen to cause damage. Love the new girls. Any suggestions about the swelling? I've applied Arinica Montana , and frozen peas.

Each plastic surgeon has his or her own protocol for resuming pre-op activities to include exercising, and I highly recommend you follow your personal surgeon's advice, vis-a-vis exercising.That being said, the first week after an augmentation, you definitely have a chance of bleeding if you overdo it, and especially the first 3-5 days.  Blood around an implant is the #1 way to make breasts hard (capsular contracture).  If you were my patient, I would recommend:1.  End of first week, long walks up to 3-4 miles'2.  End of second week, swimming, especially after a transaxillary breast augmentation, because it gets the mobility back in the arms;3.  End of third week, back in the gym doing everything except for bouncing type exercises (no running, no aerobics, no horseback riding);4.  End of fourth week, start running slowly, begin to wear a bra, now you can resume all pre-op activities, but slowly.Therefore, the short answer is you can begin RUNNING at 4 WEEKS.

Thank you for your question. You definitely want to follow your own surgeon's post-op activity instructions. This is a general guide I give to my patients:
1)  No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 6 weeks.
2)  Resume walking at a leisurely pace right after surgery (e.g. 2 mph)
3)  At 2 weeks, you can walk 2 miles at 2mph
4)  At 3 weeks, you can walk 3 miles at 3mph
5)  At 4 weeks, you can walk 4 miles at 4mph
6)  At 5 weeks, you can jog 5 miles at 5mph
7)  At 6 weeks, you can resume all activities, but listen to your body and use discomfort or tightness as a guide so you don't over do it.

In patients that if healed properly I permit running it for weeks with a good athletic bra. However, you should get your instructions specifically from your own surgeon.

I would recommend asking your surgeon about activity in your particular case as i t can vary. I tell my breast implant patients not to exercise at all for 2 weeks. Then they gradually increase activity. After six weeks, I tell them to resolve just about all activity. I prefer they avoid push-ups and bench press for many months after surgery.

Providing the postoperative recovery is proceeding normally I tell my patients they can resume running in 4 weeks as long as they use a good sports bra.  Each patient however is different and each surgeon has his or her own postoperative routine.  It is always best to follow the routine outlined by your surgeon.  Good luck

Thanks for your questionWith regard to returning to exercise after breast implant surgery it is important to consider how the surgery was done and how you are healing.  I advise patients to avoid heavy exercise for 2 weeks after surgery and then if the healing is progressing as expected I will discuss methods to return to exercise individual to each patient.  In most cases this includes moderate exercise after 3 weeks, and return to more vigorous exercise at 4 weeksBest Wishes

I generally recommend walking from day 1 (short distances
& nothing strenuous & not building up a sweat or raising heart rate)
then more vigorous exercise from around 6 weeks.  I usually see patients at around 4 weeks
& advise from there.  Every patient
