I am having my MMO very soon and I am trying to prepare in getting my supplies. I know I need sterile Gauze for sure. But do I need the abdominal specific gauze pads? Also what about medical tape? What is the best brand/type that will adhere to my skin?(non surgical area obviously). Thanks
Answer: MMO supplies Thank you for submitting this question. We give each of our patients supplies prior to their procedures to ensure proper healing and recovery. Non adherent pads are best to cover incisions, we prefer ones from amazon. No medical tape is needed. I recommend scheduling a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon like myself and they will be able to give you a list of anything you'll need post procedure.

Answer: Supplies I have my patients get thick panty liners than will stick to their binder or panties and not stick to skin or my tapes. These are clean and much cheaper than sterile gauze. You will not need sterile gauze on closed incisions. If an open wound develops, then will you need them.

Answer: Confirm with your surgeon Great question- most surgeons will not require sterile gauze. Every surgeon has a slightly different post operative care regimen. I would recommend confirming necessary supplies with them. Supplies needed depend on drain placement , how incisions are dressed at the end of your procedure and the possible use of compression garments. Hope this helps !

Answer: Preparing for surgery This question is best answered by your surgeon as opinions vary on what is needed for post surgery care. If you are in need of sterile gauze the brand will not matter. You just want to ensure that the product is not expired. You can get gauze and tape at most local drug stores or major retailers such as Target.

Answer: My Favorite Post-Operative Products Congratulations on scheduling your Mommy Makeover! I am going to assume you have scheduled a breast surgery (augmentation and/or lift) and a tummy tuck with maybe some liposuction as well. My recommendations for post-surgical products are the following: 1. Breast Surgery: We write a comprehensive blog on the products we recommend at the link below. 2. Absorbent Pads: I recommend getting large absorbent pads, called "chucks" or "underpads." They can be found at most pharmacies. This helps protect your furniture/bed those first few days when you may have clear-ish fluid leak from your wounds, which is very normal. 3. Easy-to-eat foods: Any sources of electrolytes that are particularly enticing to you. Popsicles, bone broth, meal replacement shakes, electrolyte drinks. It may be a push to eat/drink the first few days when you are recovering and anything you can do to make it easier will help your body heal faster.4. Ways to keep your mind occupied: Phone games, puzzles, buy a new book, update your Netflix list, prepare to be resting for a week after surgery. Giving yourself a few relaxing activities to look forward to.5. Pajamas with pockets: If you are having a tummy tuck you will have drains. Pajama bottoms/tops with pockets will allow an easy place for those drains to be without needing to tape them to your body.6. Soft cotton camisoles: Sometimes post-op compression garments can be a little itchy and have zippers/hooks that may be directly on your skin. Having a soft camisole between your skin and the garment can make all the difference in terms of comfort. Medical tape: I would recommend limiting medical tape use if possible. The adhesives in the tape can be irritating to the skin if used frequently. Otherwise, paper tape/hypoallergenic tape can be used sparingly if needed as long as they are breathable.Gauze pads: Definitely have a box on hand for replacing your dressings as needed. I would recommend 4x4" gauze squares. No specific brand required.
