Hello, I‘ve been planning on undergoing a sliding genioplasty and getting a full jaw implant and I‘ve been wondering if I should combine these two procedures or get them done separately. Obviously, combining them reduces the overall swelling bc I would only go under the knife once. However, a part of me is thinking, if I get the g.plasty first and then go for the implant, the overall result might be more predictable than when you combine multiple procedures into one big surgery.

It is true that having one surgery is preferred over having two. However I would not recommend getting both of these at the same time. I would start with the genioplasty first. That itself may get you the results you are looking for. If after everything is healed, you may then think about adding an implant, although it may not be a full jaw. You might only want angled implants after, if your chin has the prominence you were looking for. There is also the possibility that you do not like the results if both were to be done at the same time, and you ended up needing two surgeries anyway to remove the implant. Safer bet is to do the one at a time, with the genioplasty being the first procedure.
