I am 6 days PO and I was told to take my sterile strips off at one week. Well I took one side off because it was bugging me. My nipple sort of peeled off my skin. Not my whole nipple but like a little tiny corner is separated. I can see pink flesh. It doesn’t hurt at all. I am just wondering is this normal? I put new sterile tape on it and am not messing with the other side.

Answer: Tape removal This sounds like a small amount of blistering beneath the tape and should not be an issue. Keep it covered with an antibiotic ointment of your choice until healed. Call your surgeon if additional concerns or any signs of infection.

Answer: Postoperative care after breast surgery Thank you for your question. A small separation of the wound edges or what may appear like a small area of blistered skin should go on to heal fine. If it is a wound separation, replacement of the steristrips is indicated, if it appears like a blister, neosporin ointment (if not allergic) and gauze works well. I would think that you have a followup appointment soon with your plastic surgeon and can have the area evaluated thoroughly.Cheers,Brad Remington, MD
