I am planning on getting a breast reduction in the near future, and I am concerned that after I have this done my breasts will "deflate" with no fullness left in the upper portion as I have seen in so many after pictures. My hope is to go from a DD to a small C - Is there anything that can be done to keep or add fullness to the upper part of the breast without having to go back for another procedure?

Answer: Upper pole fullness It is possible to either limit resection of the upper pole of the breast during a breast reduction or move some breast tissue into this area. However, these surgical maneuvers are limited compared to the placement of an implant. If this is a concern, I would consider an implant as the best way to restore fullness of the upper half of the breast.

Answer: Breast reduction and breasts "deflating". Can something be done to add upper pole fullness? Congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery. The most important decision you make is careful selection of your plastic surgeon; you will want to make sure that he/she can demonstrate significant experience achieving the types of outcomes you will be pleased with. You will find that the aesthetic outcome of this procedure, including details such as the superior pole volume achieved, will vary from one plastic surgeon to another. Then, it will be important for you to communicate your goals carefully. I would not suggest that you communicated goals on achieving a specific cup size; for example, a "small C cup” may mean different things to different people. In my practice, I much prefer the use of goal pictures during this communication process.Best wishes; hopefully you will be very pleased with the results of a the breast reduction procedure. If in the longer term, you wish to achieve more superior pole volume than what is achieved with the breast reduction procedure, breast augmentation surgery may be indicated as a second procedure.
