I'm currently in college and was wondering if it would be even remotely possible for me to continue going to my classes after I have a breast reduction. I only have class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11AM to 5PM, although I could more than likely leave my last class at around 3PM. The only reason this comes up is because I go to school year-round (including winter break). It's very, very important to me to always be in class unless it's a dire emergency. Any tips would be more than helpful.
Answer: Breast reduction during school? Most patients need AT LEAST one week away from school activities; remember, you will be on pain medications that may make it difficult to concentrate, communicate, learn… I would suggest, that when you decide to have this procedure done ( by the way one of the most patient pleasing operations performed), allow yourself enough recovery time. Best wishes.

Answer: Ultimate Breast Lift™ It is possible to have surgery on a Thursday and go back to school on Monday. However, you will not be 100% percent. The technique I recommend is called The Ultimate Breast Reduction™.The breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. This technique avoids the ugly vertical scars of the traditional technique, maintains nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed. The weight of the breast is transferred to the underlying muscle resulting in immediate pain relief without excessive reduction.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Breast reduction recovery It may be feasible for you to have surgery on Thursday and return to classes on Monday. However I wouldn't expect you to be at 100% by Monday. It would also be helpful if you had someone to drive you to and from classes, should you still require some narcotic pain medication for discomfort. In addition I would recommend using long lasting injecctable pain medication like Exparel. This would decrease the amount of narcotic usage.

Answer: Breast Reduction during surgery I think you can undergo breast reduction on Thursday and be able to go back to work on Monday. Everyone has different pain threshold. However, most of my breast reduction patients have surgery either Wednesday or Thursday and be able to go back to work as long as the work is not too strenuous. You may be able to be off the pain medication after 3-4 days; however, please try to take it easy as much as you can. Also, talk with your plastic surgeon about injecting you with a long-acting pain medication (Exparel) during your surgery. Good luck!

Answer: Breast reduction during school Each surgeon has his or her own guidelines for postoperative care. Typically, patients can return to light activities 5 to 10 days post breast reduction. After choosing your surgeon, consult with him or her as the surgeon will know the specifics of the surgery and about you.
