Surgeon says I just didn't see it before. NOT true. I have pics from 2 different drs just 2 months prior to surgery, and the bag was not there. I met with a plastic surgeon and he agrees that the fat pad appears to be swollen for some reason. He has pics from me from a yr ago, and I did not have any bags. He recommends giving it a few more months to see if swelling subsides.

Answer: Puffy eye bag following cataract surgery Thank you for your interesting question. Having performed many thousands of both cataract surgeries as well as eyelid surgeries in my 30 years of practice, I can definitively tell you that I have never seen a puffy "eye bag" in the lower eyelid resulting from cataract surgery. Other than possibly in the first 24-48 hours following surgery in which case there may possibly be some mild post-operative eyelid swelling, I have never seen cataract surgery directly cause any eye bag. Frankly, it would not make sense to me anatomically. Good luck to you in finding the exact cause! Emilio M. Justo, MD Medical Director Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center
