Can I take an antibiotic before having general anesthesia? I have cataract surgery schedule for Wednesday 5/2.

Question

I started feeling the symptoms of a UTI today 4/28. I will go see a doctor tomorrow to have a urine test. If I am prescripted an antibiotic will it affect me having general anesthesia on Wednesday?

You many want to call the anesthesia department where you intend to have surgery.
Most of the time, general anesthesia isn't used for cataract surgery.
Generally, antibiotic use for minor infection outside the surgical site isn't an issue it antibiotics are placed in the eye at the time of surgery ( not drops but placed inside by the surgeon).
If you are very sick from the UTI you may want to post pone surgery.
Giving the anesthetist the name of your antibiotic before hand and asking if it interferes with any of the medicines they use would be your best bet.
