I have a small chin implant from 30 years ago. Now that I'm in my 50's I'd like to add another chin implant that is wider as the current one seems too small and pointy. Do you think adding another small implant will help enhance my appearance and lessen the jowly look? The surgeon recommends I also get a neck lift but it's not bad and I've heard that the recovery is pretty rough. I'd appreciate your opinion.
Answer: Should small chin implant be added to existing implant? I would not recommend adding another chin implant to the one you currently have, but you could remove your existing implant and replace it with an extended one. There are many different styles and sizes of extended chin implants, but there are some that would help to fill the pre-jowl area. I believe this would help to make your current chin appear less pointy and give a smoother jawline and improve the jowls.

Answer: Chin Implants Unless our old chin implant has settled significantly into the bone (which after 30 years it may have), it is usually better to replace it with a pre jowl style chin implant. This newer chin implant will help build up the prejowl area. (lower end of the marionette lines) If you did this type of chin implant and combined with a more limited jowl tuckup lift, you would efface your jowls and have a very limited recovery.

Answer: Chin implant removal and replacement It is not a good idea to add one chin implant on top of another for a variety of reasons including migration, extrusion and will not feel appropriate. It is better to remove the existing small chin implant and replace it with a medium sized implant. In our practice, a neck lift involves removal of fatty deposits in the neck and a platysma plasty. If there is excess skin present, and patient's are in the 50s, a lower face and neck lift is required to tighten loose facial and neck skin. The chin implant to be placed through the very same incision as a neck lift or face/neck lift

Answer: Should I add a small chin implant to my existing one to add balance to my face and reduce the jowly look? Hi, from the photos your chin is quite weak and there is jowling as well as excess skin under the chin. Chin augmentation, by exchanging the snmall existing chin implant with one that provides additional chin projection, will create harmony and balance to the lower face. Implants shouldn't be stacked upon each other as this increases the risk of them shifting and moving out of position. Chin implants will not reduce the appearance of jowls. If you have "jowls" this is sagging facial tissues and an indication for some form of a facelift. The underlying SMAS layer, of the face, must be dissected, lifted, trimmed and re-sutured. The excess skin is then removed and the facelift incisions closed. My most popular facelift is the minimally invasive, short incision facelift that has all the benefits of more invasive facelifts (traditional, mid-face and subperiosteal facelifts) but with these added benefits: •very small incisions •minimal tissue dissection = less bruising and swelling = rapid recovery •can be performed in 90 minutes or less, with or without anesthesia •no incisions within the hair = no hair loss •excess fat can be removed •excess skin removed •cheeks, chin and jaw line can be augmented with dermal fillers (I prefer Restylane Lyft) or facial implants •most patients fly back home to parts all over the world in as little as 3 days post-op Hope this helps.

Answer: Adding Another Implant to Previously Placed Chin Implant It will be technically easier and the results more predictable if the old implant is removed and replaced with a longer more defined implant that will improve the contour of your chin and anterior jawline.
