Are the results of carbon laser peel permanent?

Thanks for your question.  The Hollywood carbon peel can be useful for calming down active acne, but is by no means a permanent cure.  Acne is a multi-factorial problem and is related to hormones, family history, and other conditions.  Please see your dermatologist to get the best treatment regimen but it is ok to get a carbon peel now and then for a non-permanent improvement if you have an event or something you need to look good for immediately. 

I have been performing the carbon laser peel since 2011 and always tell m patients that the acne can return and recommend an occasional touchup session. The initial sessions are normally 5 but often the touchup only needs one or two. Most acne is caused by something either in the skin exfoliation or hormone changes. Teen acne often becomes stable after puberty is completed thus future treatments may not be required. The laser does help but it is not 100% preventative for future breakouts.

Bottom line- no, they are not permanent in most cases. They can however place your acne into remission for variable periods of 2- 20 weeks. Laser targets the carbon that are in your oil glands- this laser energy does NOT destroy your oil glands, but gives collateral damage to the p. acnes or bacteria that reside in the acne glands.
