I'm considering getting liposuction from a surgeon whose practice is out of state for me. I don't have a car to get there, but I would be able to take a 3 hour greyhound bus in each direction. I've seen it said that you should not sit for an extended period of time after liposuction. Is 3 hours of sitting too long or is that acceptable? There may be a point where we are able to walk around for a few minutes, but I'm not certain.

Answer: Sitting ok but not 3 hours on bus post op I would not recommend a 3 hour bus ride after surgery and anesthesia. You will be very uncomfortable and at risk for blood clots, dehydration, etc. Normal post op sitting for short times with getting up frequently is very important. Also- far distance makes routine post operative care difficult you have any issues. We cannot discharge patients without an escort accompanying them and staying with them so patients are not alone. Most of our out of state patients will stay overnight nearby with their escort and be checked at the office in the morning before traveling home. Follow up arrangements are made as well for the months after Vaser liposuction. I would recommend a plastic surgeon closer to home to avoid these issues. If not, stay near by with a friend or family instead of bussing back right away,

Answer: Transportation Concerns After Liposuction: Is a 3-Hour Bus Ride Acceptable? Taking a 3-hour Greyhound bus ride after liposuction raises concerns about prolonged sitting, which may increase the risk of blood clots and discomfort. It's crucial to prioritize your safety and recovery. If possible, consider arranging alternative transportation methods or discussing with your surgeon about the feasibility of such a trip and any precautions you should take.
