Is it safe to have tear trough filler by a nurse?

Is it a must to have a plastic surgeon or eye doctor for tear trough filler? Is it too risky to let a nurse do it? Should you go for the person that does the most treatments?

Hi there and thanks for your question.Tear troughs can be a very challenging area prone to complications.The reason for this is that the skin is quite thin and the anatomy can be quite different from person to person compared with say anti wrinkle treatments to the glabellar area.The choice of filler and location to be injected needs to be tailored to each patient.You should choose someone who is experienced in these treatments and who makes you feel comfortable.Best wishesRichard

Tear Troughs are difficult areas that are unforgiving and prone to complications. I perform the injections myself and I find it challenging.This is due to the complex anatomy that varies from person to person.Your Injector should be experienced enough to understand anatomy and assess any variation that may be present. The choice of filler and technique needs to be customised to avoid a complication.You have to go with someone whom you feel comfortable with, of course see some before and after pictures.All the best

I'm sure that there there are some nurses that have been well trained at injecting fillers . However, there is no way to regulate and measure who they are. They are not well  trained in anatomy and have not done surgery on the face as plastic surgeons and dermatologists have and they are not well trained to manage possible side effects. There are several procedures that we could teach our kids to do for us(like operating a laser) but they could not make the right choices when it comes what patients to use these things on and how to take care of any problems that might occur. If you are paying GOOD MONEY AND HAVING SOMEONE PUT A NEEDLE TO YOUR FACE, MAKE SURE THAT IT IS THE MOST EXPERIENCED PERSON POSSIBLE.

Filler in tear trough area is a very tricky procedure & fraught with complications & generally speaking best avoided unless for specific deformity. I don't recommend adminstartion by nurse or even non specialist doctor.
