I havemy patients from out of town stay for at least oneweek post-op so I can evaluate them and remove the splint and sutures. I makesure they’redoing well before they leave. I allow my patients to travel by air 7-10 dayspost-op if theyuse Afrin spray during take offs and landings.
I recommend about 2 weeks after surgery, then make sure to find a trusted PS in your area just in case a complication occurs.
If you are driving, you can safely leave after the 5th day (after sutures and internal splints are removed). If you are flying, I recommend 7 days. Pack light or bring a friend or family member to help you during your recovery and your travel back home.Hope this helps.Kind regards,Gary Horndeski M.D.
5 to 7 days would be a reasonable amount of time for out of town patients.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
At our practice, safety is paramount! Remember, this is fun, elective surgery. For all of our patients that fly in from out-of-town, we make it a prerequisite for them to stay for a minimum of 7 days. During that time period, you may be at risk to travel, with higher incidence of blood clots, increased sinus pressure and early postoperative complications. In addition, external and internal splints, as well as non-absorbable sutures will have to be removed 7 days after surgery. When you're dealing with your face, it's always better to overplan, as rushing home early may lead to disastrous outcomes!
I usually have my out of town rhinoplasty patients stay here in San Diego for 7-10 days after surgery. This typically will allow me to see them on at least two different occasions before heading home. That being said, I have had some select patients stay for as little as 5 days after rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty.
It is ideal to stay near the office for the first 5-6 days post surgery. At that point, the splint and any sutures can be removed and you can return home. We do occasionally have patients return home after 1-2 days but this requires a return trip to the office at 5-6 days post surgery for their first visit. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
We work in Madrid, Spain, and we target foreign patients travelling from UK, all Europa, Australia and US, after rhinoplasty we ask them to stay a 1-2 nights near us, it depends the kind of procedure. The fly back safe without issues. A transatlantic flight may recommend 2 nights in Madrid.
For 35 years we have cared for patients in town for six days and on that day the cast and stitches are removed and the patient may return to their city of origin. We have never had any complication from patients doing this. See a very experienced surgeon for the best result.
It is better to ask the surgeon who will do the surgery, follow his/her recommendations, as not all the patients may have the same procedure the follow up may be a little different.
I would really need to examine you to determine what your options would be. Of course at your age you need parental consent. I have performed rhinoplasty in girls as young as 15, usually a few years older for boys.
You are doing most of the things to minimize/reduce bruising after rhinoplasty.Although pulsed dye lasers can help a little, bruising is usually short lived and coverable with a small amount of camouflaging make-up.The bruising should resolve soon
It sounds like you probably had a reductive rhinoplasty with cartilage excision. As you noticed, this can lead to a pinched tip with nasal valve collapse. The key in rhinoplasty is cartilage preservation, repositioning, and strengthening through grafting in my opinion to aesthetically improve...
