Why are my breast lift scars spreading?

A Benelli or donut mastopexy always places tension on the final incision. This is a recipe for spreading of the scar in flattening of the areola.

Its difficult to offer advice in the absence of photographs.  Each patient responds differently to surgery and heals differently.  There may be underlying tension on the sutures which remain intact but pull through the tissue and cause the scar to spread.  You may simply have thin tissue and the scars have spread and thicken.  Discuss your concerns and options for scar revision with your surgeon and continue to use silicone gel products to aid in the healing of your scars.

People heal differently. It is difficult to predict why one person heals well and another does not and yet the same technique was used. Maybe a revision of the scar might help.

It is always hard to offer advice or explanation without enough information, and in this case photos would be helpful. As to the permanent suture, you should be able to feel it yourself--a circular band usually right at the outer edge of the areola.A common reason for failure is untying or breaking of the suture. When the tension is great enough, the suture can pull through the tissue and allow the areola to spread even though the suture itself remains intact.All the best. 

A Benelli lift has the downside of having too much tension on the suture line and even with permanent sutures, can lead to spreading scars and a flatter look to your breast.

Discuss scar revision with your Plastic Surgeon.  It will be very important to follow his instructions for scar managment. Everyone heals different, and there is no way to predict the outcome with this type of lift.  Best wishes!
