Can masseter Botox change my face? (Photo)

Question

I have a very bottom heavy face, especially when I smile. I have TMJ and bruxism, so I’m not sure if maybe that’s what caused so much buildup in my wide jaw. I was wondering if masseter botox can transform my face to the second picture?

Bruxism can certainly contribute to a hypertrophic or enlarged masseter, which in turn contributes to more volume and width along the jawline and the lower third of the face. Generally three things contribute to the width of the jawline: 1) subcutaneous fat 2) masseter muscle 3) size and shape of the mandible. With masseter reduction using Botox or Dysport you can effectively reduce the volume from the masseter and create a slimmer appearance to your jawline.

I helps to relax the muscles which tend to tense up and cause grinding, clenching and even jaw locking.  A plus to getting masseter botox is that it does slim the face and jawline. Botox when injected in the masseter muscles can help slim the appearance of the jawline.  The treatment is temporary but can last several months.  You can also use fillers to help sculpt the jawline. Be sure to see an expert injector near you for treatment.

When someone has prominent master muscles Botox in the muscles can certainly slim that part of the face. This is what we see when we treat bruxism but also what we can do for those that are just interested in changing the shape of the face. I don't usually recommend for older patients(not you) as method to change shape as they might not appreciate the volume loss.
