Will Botox in my masseters affect my singing?

Hello, I’m am looking to get Botox in my masseters for teeth grinding but I’m wondering if it will affect my singing? Will I be able to open wide still? I know your jaw is pretty relaxed while singing but I still wondered if I will be able to open wide if I need to? Thanks!

Getting treated with Botox in your masseters should not have any direct effect on your singing as it does not affect the vocal cords. However, when the jaw muscles are relaxed - you will be able to open your mouth easier and project sound better. The benefits of Botox for TMJ outweigh any risk. This is such an interesting question. Injecting Botox or any other neuromodulator into the masseters will have the effect of relaxing them, reducing clenching and reducing excessive bulk. Because singing requires a relaxed jaw and relative ease in the entire head/neck axis in order to fully take advantage of the diaphragm, I would think that masseter Botox would be a positive intervention with respect to your craft.

Generally speaking, you should not have any issues of treating your Masseter muscles with Botox.  In rare cases Botox can affect vocal cords, but it is extremely rare. I hope this helps a good luck from New York City Plastic Surgery.
