Forehead osteomas and lipomas represent a common benign lesion found on the forehead. When visible, it can be distressing to the patient. While there are a variety of methods to remove these lesions, endoscopic approach with a single incision is the best. I utilize a small incision with specialized instruments specific for osteoma removal of the forehead, which allows me to perform this procedure comfortably in an in-office setting. Many patients can return to work in days rather than weeks with an incision conveniently hidden in the scalp.
The bump looks like it's made of bone, something called an osteoid osteoma. This can be determined on examination. If that's what it is, it can indeed be shaved down through a small incision behind your hairline and takes about ten minutes. If it is soft, it is most likely a lipoma, which would require removal through an incision directly over the lump.
Bumps in that area feel hard but are frequently lipomas or other soft tissue masses which can be removed by excision. A radiographic study can confirm this before the procedure but is not always mandatory. This can be removed easily with minimal scarring using standard plastic surgery techniques.
The treatment depends on the exact etiology of the bump. It looks like it is bony in nature or it could be cystic. Given the location, it is best to place incision behind the hairline and endoscopically shave down the bump. See link below. Another option would be incision close to the bump in one of the forehead creases.
I have treated several patients who have a similar problem. This is probably an osteoma which is a bony growth and can be shaved down without leaving a noticeable scar. The scar can be made in the hair so it is not seen. Make sure you see an
Thank you for your question. This could be what is called a "forehead osteoma", which is a bony growth on the bone of the forehead. On exam it would feel a hard bump that does not move with the skin. Usually we need to obtain a CT scan to confirm the diagnosis. This is something that can be easily removed through a small incision behind the hairline. I would recommend you find a facial plastic surgeon in your area with experience in endoscopic brow lift, since the removal requires the same skill set.Good luck.
but will require a scar right over it (which is the easiest and most sure thing at getting rid of that) or you could approach it from the hairline which makes it much more tedious and challenging to remove completely and presumably would increase your costs.
Usually these bumps are secondary to benign bony grows, frequently secondary to previous trauma. The bone can be filed down trough an incision in the hair bearing scalp. Consult with a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial work.
