Can an umbilicoplasty fix this incision scar? (photo)

Question

A few days ago, I had a total lap hysterectomy with an umbilical removal. I was very surprised/disappointed when I realized my normal, textbook "innie" now looks like this. My first question to a plastic surgeon is, is this presentation considered botched work? Secondly, can an umbilicoplasty restore what I now have back to something totally normal looking? How soon can I get that procedure post-op? Thank you.

Dear Notideal, thanks for sharing your concern and picture, as it seems your insicion is not even properly healed yet so we dont know how is really going to look after is completely healed, I do suggest to wait at least 6 to 8 months to see the evolution, after this time if you are not confortable an scar revition can be perform to improve the stetic. be aware you will always have an scar. it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You will always have a scar in that area but it can probybla be improved. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

You have no idea how your umbilicus (which does not appear to be 'removed') will look once it heals. Give it at least 6 to 9 months before you decide whether it's appearance is acceptable. I hope you've been treated for that infection.

It takes 1 year for scars to mature in your age. Appearance of your BB will change and improve as scar matures. Only after 1 year or longer one should consider surgical revision if needed. I do not consider this to be botched; this is the way gynecological surgeon approached laparotomy; scars in this area generally heal well, without significant deformity. Hope this helps.
