How tight does my Ace bandage need to be after face/neck lift?

I am one week post op and the ace bandage hurts my neck and makes creases in my neck, even when I try and loosen it. I know I have to wear it but is there a more comfortable way? My face was numb before, and feeling is starting to come back slowly, so maybe Thats why it didn't bother me as much earlier in the week

There are multiple ways to prevent swelling and allow a rapid recovery.  Tight bandages are typically not recommended for long periods of time as they may impair the blood supply.  In my practice, patients wear a loose elastic garment for the first 24 hours which is switched to a light face and neck bra for the first few days and adjusted to comfort.  If pain is out of the ordinary, speak with your surgeon to ensure appropriate healing.

Hi do you still have drains in? If so then the bandage does not need to be so tight. The bandage should feel snug and firm and not tight to the point that it causes pain. Some lines and indentation is expected due to swelling. The garment may be small if it is still tight on the loose setting.

I recommend contacting your surgeon ASAP.  Garments should not be so tight that it is still causing you pain and discomfort.  Your surgeon should be able to treat you accordingly.  Best of luck.

Postoperative ACE bandages or Bias bandages are not meant to be too constrictive.  Revisit your surgeon to replace your bandage if you are having issues. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

You should talk to your surgeon about the bandage. It shouldn't be hurting you or applying too much pressure, since it could delay your recovery or even cause complications.

In my practice we use any elastic facelift garment that generates only modest pressure. Excessive pressure could be damaging in you should report this to your surgeon.

Ace bandage could compromise the blood supply to the delicate skin flaps that are elevated during the surgery, and I do not recommend wearing them. Pressure dressing is applied with non-stretch gauze for 24 hours and is taken off. A jaw bra can help with the swelling and is considered better than an Ace bandage.

Contact your surgeon as soon as possible regarding your bandage.  In my practice, the tight bandage is applied after surgery and usually stays on overnight, then I apply a lighter one.  Every surgeon has there own preference to post op care.  Best wishes!
