Hello,Thank you for your question. In my practice I recommend both silicone gel and silicone sheeting. I usually advise sheeting for those who tend to scar noticeably as it is slightly more aggressive. Ask your surgeon what they recommend for you. You can use either of thse once your incision is completely healed. All the best
Thank you for your question. I am not aware of any study that has compared various silicone tapes/pads vs. silicone ointments. Generally, we know that silicone scar therapy is the best topical treatment during the healing process. Treatments like cocoa butter, vitamin E, or Mederma have not shown significant benefit for scars. I typically recommend Biocorneum topical silicone ointment because of its ease of use. Silicone pads work well, but don't always stay in place. Embrace scar therapy is another option, but can be expensive. Check with your surgeon and ask them what scar therapy they recommend. Good luck.
I only use Embrace Scar Defense. I think it works the very best! Best wishes, Dr. Aldo
Thanks for your question, I like to recommend for the scar care the Epi-derm Silicone Gel Ship or Clear Long strip, make sure to wear those for at least 3 or 6 months. Good luck with your recovery :)
Any of the commonly used silicone strips work well. Medical paper tape works well also. These need to be used daily for at lest 3 months. See link below for more information.
Thank you for your question. In my experience Mepitac silicone scar tape is the most effective that I have used in my 35 years as a plastic surgeon. The benefit of Mepitac is that once it is placed on the scar it stays on even when exposed to sweat and water. Other silicon tapes in my experience become loose and fall off with sweat and moisture.
The silicone gel sheeting will work better than a cream. Having said that, it may be overkill for most patients. In other words the scar may turn out fine on its own. If you don’t want to take a wait and see approach then go with the silicone strips.
I would think a few weeks...but as has been said you could do them together. And I would not assume that the nose recovery is easier. Exparel has significantly improved the tummy recovery.Good luck!
Hello, and thank-you for your question. The recovery following a tummy tuck depends on the extent of surgery (mini, modified, full, or extended tummy tuck), the amount of liposuction, number of additional procedures performed, ect. There has been a break through in the technology of post op pa...
Hello and thank you for your question. Follow your surgeon's instructions. Often dry care can be helpful to reduce yeast infection, although your surgeon will modify things to help the split stabilize and begin to close. This could take a number of weeks but avoiding excessive activity is the ...
