Can Sculptra be used after fat transfer? How much volume?

I had fat transfer to the face about 4 months ago. Most of the fat were absorbed in the buccal area and NLs. Because the swelling for the fat transfer took a long time to resolve I am considering sculptra. Will sculptra affect the fat transfer? Because I was told not to massage the fat but sculptra needs lots of massage after. How much volume can sculptra create?

Your fat transfer was far enough in the past that getting Sculptra now and massaging your face will not affect it. A vial of Sculptra stimulates the skin to produce more collagen, which gives your face about a teaspoon worth of volume. That’s about how much fat we lose from the face every year after the age of 30. It’s also why you will probably need a series of injections to make up for the volume lost thus far, plus get annual touch-ups to compensate for that year’s fat loss. Sculptra can be used safety after a fat transfer as long as enough time has passed for the fat transfer to recover. 4 months is reasonable.

Thank you for your question. There should be no problem with having Sculptra Aesthetic injected 4 months out from your fat transfer and you are far enough out that massaging the areas should not be a problem. As for volume created by Sculptra, there is variability person to person. In general, it takes a series of 2 to 3 sets of Sculptra injections to reach your endpoint. Each vial is thought to produce a volume equivalent of collagen to 4-5 syringes of filler. This is about a teaspoon.I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

There should be no problems using Sculptra after fat transfer. I does take about 9-12 months to see the full effects of the fat grafting. You might want to wait for that time period. I don't think massaging at this point will change the outcome of the fat. Your doctor will blame the poor fat grafting results on the Sculptra however.
