What I wanted was a high, deep single-crease fold like the girl in the first photo. My new crease is definitely higher than my old crease, but I now also have multiple lines/wrinkles going across my upper eyelid like the girl's 'before' in the second photo. Not at all what I wanted and looks terrible. Is this normal and will it go away with more time?? Help.
Answer: This is post-upper blepharoplasty syndrome (PUBS). The creases are too high and you are not ptotic (droopy upper eyelid). The platform skin is not well controlled so there is likely no benefit for the lash ptosis. The sulcus will appear increasingly hollow and depleted as you heal. Generally I strongly recommend letting the eyelids heal for a couple of more months and then seek opinions regarding what should be done with an eye toward waiting at least 6 months before revising these eyelids. This is fixable but requires specialized skills that your eyelid surgeon does not possess. My out-of-town patients typically spending about 8 days in the Los Angeles area for this type of surgical work.

Answer: Post op recovery This is very likely still edema (swelling) the lids can swell impressively after surgery and this can take a while to fully resolve. I recommend to my patients to eat a low salt (sodium) diet. Less than 1500mg. It is very hard you have to essentially eat only fresh fruits, veggies and meats with no additives. That will help. Time is your best friend though. Be patient the results look good at this point.Hope this helps.Best of luck,DrC

Answer: Post-blepharoplasty recovery Thanks for your question and photos! It is important to remember that every patient's recovery will take a trajectory as unique as your own body, along with its unique features and any associated health issues. The eyelid surgery you had was a upper eyelid blepharoplasty, sometimes referred to as "double eyelid surgery" when the aesthetic goals were as you described. Most patients will have the majority of their swelling resolve around 6 weeks, but this can vary greatly depending on diet and other medical conditions such as allergies. Keep in mind that the full healing process takes up to a year and the in-between milestones are at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. The appearance of your eyelids is still likely to progress although more gradually at this point in the postoperative period. A good first step would be to avoid excess alcohol and salt intake, and to make sure that any allergic conditions (reactions to eyelid ointment, face creme, or eye allergies) are controlled, as any of these issues can exacerbate residual swelling. You should express your concerns to your surgeon so that your recovery can be monitored and revision offered if deemed appropriate by your surgeon. Hope this helps!

Answer: Upper blepharoplasty Performing Americanization of the upper eyelid on Asian eyes is a difficult procedure in my experience. If you are having concerns about your results or have questions it is always a good idea to discuss them with your doctor. 2 months post surgery is still early in healing but your concerns should be noted. Thank you for your question.
