Closed procedure to shave bump?

Question

I've had a few surgeries all open. I had irregularities on my bridge and thin skin as a consequence. I hit my nose on my bridge and it made the bump/irregularity stand out even more. It's not bone but cartlidge (septum or graft or both). I recently met with some docs. One mentioned going in closed and gently shaving the high ridge and then using fascia. My question is this procedure safe even though I have grafts in my nose and have has a few surgeries. Thanks!

Hello, hope you are well. A closed approach is the safest method based on your history and description of the issue at hand. Cartilage rasps can be used to reduce the bump, and placing a fascia graft under the skin is a good way to reduce visibility and palpability of contour irregularities. It sounds like a good plan.

It is certainly possible that this can be done.  We may be able to do this right in the office using some special instrumentation we have.

A rhinoplasty can be done closed even if prior ones were done open. In fact it’s better because it will bypass your tip entirely. Unfortunately not many surgeons know how to do closed rhinoplasty anymore
