I I want lipo on my back and abdomen, combined with abdominoplasty to help tighten and flatten my abdomen (correct me if I'm wrong). On the fence with a tummy tuck (not fond of the navel replacement). I need to lose about 40 lbs for those. With regard to a breast lift, is it OK to get the lift now before other procedures or would that require the weight loss first as well? The lift would provide much relief and confidence. Is it a safer procedure for an overweight pt compared to lipo and such?
Answer: Is BL OK starter procedure for overweight/obese patients Photos would be helpful in answering your questions. A breast lift can improve the shape and appearance and the symmetry as well in most instances; but most of the stretchmarks, if you have any, will remain. I would recommend that you lose the 40 pounds you mentioned before the breast lift as losing that much weight would tend to affect the results in a detrimental fashion. This has some variability as a 40 lb weight loss in a 220 lb woman may have less of an effect than a 40 lb weight loss in a 140 lb woman. With either woman, the breasts tend to sag and deflate with weight loss and another breast lift may be required.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Breast lift Thank you for your inquiry. Being at your ideal weight, a weight that you have maintained for at least 6 months is ideal prior to considering surgery, including a breast lift. Your weight loss can change the breast volume, skin laxity and shape of your breasts and so waiting until you have reached you best weight will give you a better result. A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is recommended for all procedures so that a complete examination can be performed and all risks and complications for each of these procedures will be discussed. Best of luck on your weight loss goal. Hope this helps. James Lee, MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Montreal, Quebec

Answer: Breast lift before weight loss In general I wouldn't recommend a breast lift before a significant planned weight loss. If you're committed to losing 40 pounds, you are likely to have a better and more sustained result of the breast lift if you lose the weight first. With regard to the safety of the procedure in an overweight or obese person, that would really depend on your BMI.
