6 months post tummy tuck, what can I do about my belly button? (Photos)

Question

I'm 6 months post op from a tummy tuck and BA. I suffered a belly button infection 11/2 days after surgery with pseudomonas. I believe It was due to neurotic tissue. My belly button is healed now and has keloid scar tissue all around it. A consulted surgeon said my BB died and since it has keloids it will be very difficult to do a revision. That removing the keloids would leave a big hole. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Would a revision work? How long do I have to wait?

Hello and thank you for your question.  The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Based on your photographs, you may benefit from a surgical revision of your belly button to make it more of an innie and to reduce the scar.   Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.

It is hard to tell for sure without an examination but you might benefit from steroid injections. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Hi,You would need to be seen in person for an exam before gauranteeing you that it can be revised for sure but it does seem like it based on your pictures. This could be done in a plastic surgeons office under local anesthesia. You would simply cut out the old scar and make a newly improved belly button. Make sure you choose a board certified plastic surgeon and one who also has experience in revising belly butttons. Best wishes!

You may want to start with small steroid injections for the raised and thick scar, and laser for the redness. It will take time.
