I assume farting meant having a fat embolism although I had a good laugh reading the typo. Fat embolism rates are similar between injections into the hip and buttocks when injected in the subcutaneous plane (extremely low). When injected into the muscle the rates go up. So choose the procedure that meets your aesthetic wishes and choose an experienced ABPS surgeon and you will do well.Best
Fat embolism is exceedingly uncommon following liposuction of thighs and flanks . It is more common in fractures of long bones, but even then much less than the occurrence of pulmonary emboli. Significant pulmonary emboli after liposuction occur at a rate of less than 1 in 1000. Fat emboli occur at a rate less than that. No type of liposuction is safer in this respect. The treatment for FE is largely supportive.
You are less likely to get a fat embolism if fat is injected to just your hips. What is important in this scenerio is does your hip dip continue into the lateral buttocks. If so, you may not get that smooth look if all the "dip" is not corrected.
With any surgical procedure, there are always risks and benefits. If fat is grafted only into the hips, the risk is low due to the large vessels being in the central aspect under the gluteus maximus. If you are a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a BBL specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully,Arian Mowlavi MD,FACSRealself 100 Hall of Fame Inductee
injecting fat from anywhere in the presence of large blood vessels has a chance of causing a fat embolism. Muscles tend to have larger blood vessels than what we see in fat. At least by my understanding and my technique most hip fat transfer tends to be above the muscle layer potentially making this somewhat safer. No surgical procedure is without risk. People have died from both liposuction and fat transfer procedures. That said, liposuction is considered a very safe procedure while fat transfer especially to the buttocks is considered one of the more risky cosmetic procedures. Fat transfer to the hips is probably somewhere in between. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
