Chances of dying from BBL?

Thank you for your question. First of all, gaining weight for a BBL might sound reasonable, but there's no scientific proof that it helps. Every surgery has risks, and BBL has been in the news due to adverse events including death. This is alarming and the causes have been studied extensively by plastic surgeons and a formal recommendation was made by ASPS and ASAPS to avoid such a catastrophic outcome. Many of the fatal outcomes happened abroad, some in the US, mostly by not board certified plastic surgeons but others who call themselves "plastic surgeons". It is very important to check out your chosen surgeon's credentials and do not be shy or afraid to ask if they have had a death with this type of procedure. There have been some reported deaths with BBL (fat transfer to buttcks), and at a somewhat higher rate than most other cosmetic procedures. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and its research foundation have been gatheing extensive research ont eh subject of BBL safety. A series of position statements from the experts have been released, related specifically to techniques that make the procedure safer. This includes how deep and where the fat is placed, the specific techniques and equipment used for fat transfer, and other protocols. These techniques in the hands of a surgeon who does lots of these procedures give it a good level of safety. An ASAPS member/ American Board of Plastic Surgery certified surgeon who performs many of these will be the most up to date and knowledgable about how to optimize safety for this procedure.
