I wear my compression garment almost 24/7 and am over six weeks post procedure. I really don't feel comfortable without it for longer than an hour or two. Is this normal? I continue with soreness which I understand is normal.

Answer: Compression garment and SmartLipo I will answer some obvious things first and one of those is to remember is that everyone is different. For most patients, they are able to do without their garment after two weeks, but there have been some that continue wearing their garment for six weeks or longer. There are some questions that I have for you to possibly help with your healing depending on your answer. First, are you eating proper nutrients that important for proper healing? For example, are you eating adequate protein? Are you eating a diet low in carbs? Are you taking any extra vitamin C, B complex, zinc and amino acids? What is your hormonal status? In other words, are you going through menopause. Low hormone levels are not consistent with proper healing. Bottom line is that many things can influence the rate of healing. Regardless of the reason for needing to wear your garment the sixth week, there is no problem to do so and that should come to an end shortly. I would recommend that you contact the doctor that did your surgery and ask for his/her opinion as well. Good luck. Dr. Knott
