First time Botox. 55 units total for 11s, forehead and crows feet. It that too much for a first timer? (Photo)

Hello,As panel members suggested, a total of 55 units of Botox for all these areas is average and reasonable.  However, we are referring to an "average" dose.  Each patient should have a treatment plan that is individualized to their needs and treatment goals.  Muscle mass, muscle strength, and desired outcomes are all factored into the total number of units used.  A good injector will review this with you ahead of time to produce the best result.

This amount can be typical for treatment. It's too soon for your final results. Botox results take 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, venus legacy treatments can help soften results. Best, Dr. Emer

It is difficult to say if that would be the correct dose for you without doing an assessment to determine muscle size etc..     In general 55 units for all the facial areas seems about right.  You want to  make you still have some movement in the face so the treatment is looking natural and not frozen.  If at two weeks you feel its too much then i would suggest you discuss this with your injector and possibly get less units at your next treatment .  Enjoy your treatment! 

Dear Solo77,Botox is generally an on off switch for muscle activity. I get a fair amount of actors/actresses in my practice that are looking to reduce wrinkles but keep some expression. Without an examination it is hard to tell how much Botox is too much for you. Most of patients see first changes after 4-7 days and the final results after 10-14 days.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Botox is an amazing treatment for 11s, forehead lines and crow's feet and you should be thrilled with the results. 55 units is a very reasonable amount but, keep in mind, these treatments are completely customizable. Some patients like the frozen look; others prefer the softer look but still want the ability to move. You should see the full effect within 1-2 weeks then you can decide what you prefer. Communication with your doctor is the best way to assure you get the results you're after.As with all cosmetic treatments, especially when it comes to fillers, the skill of the doctor is of utmost importance. Don't trust your face to just anyone! Consult with an expert in facial aesthetics to maximize your results while minimizing side effects. You'll be happier and save money in the long run.

Thank you for your post. That amount sounds reasonable. Botox will typically begin to "kick in" after 4-7 days, but some may see results earlier. Be sure to see an experienced Board Certified injector for your assessment and follow-up plan. The full effect of Botox is usually seen after 7-10 days so two weeks after your injections is a great time for a follow-up with your injector if you are not getting the results you desire. Additional injections may be given at 2 weeks if more correction is desired/needed. Botox typically lasts ~ 3 months for most, but for some maybe a bit longer or shorter, and after that it begins to slowly wear off.

Hello Solo77. That dosing is not unusual for someone receiving Botox for the first time, or if previous injections have completely worn off. Some of it depends on how bulky the muscles are, and men typically require even higher doses. I would expect that if you receive maintenance treatments at 3-4 month intervals, the require dosing will be a bit less.

This is not too much and it does not depend on whether it is the first injection or not as the results are not usually compounded.  give it time and wait 10 days and you should look fine

Generally speaking 50 units of Botox for the whole facial treatment is not a lot of Botox. In fact it sounds like just about the right amount. However I personally do not like having a frozen look on ones face. I leave some of the muscles intact with small amount of movement visible but the lines being gone. If you do not like the fact that your face is totally frozen, mention it to your treating physician or seek help in the future with someone else. Good luck from New York City
