Custom Chin Implant vs Stock?

Question

How much more expensive is a custom implant? I've seen people saying it's like 20k. Does a custom implant really add 15k to the average chin augmentation? Seems insanely off to me. I would have thought maybe a grand more.

Being an option, chin implants have serious disadvantages, specially in
the mid and long term, patients are rarely happy with them after 5-6
years, all are out by then or later.Consider the chin advancement by means of sliding genioplasty, the advantages are:-lifetime procedure, no more revision or renewal procedures-more natural than implants-no visibility of implant edges during gestures-improves
the double chin effect at the sub-mental muscles (floor of mouth)
hammock caused by lack of tension there; also improves the shape and
tension of perioral muscles; implants do no offer this feature-horse-shoe enhancement, covering the chin and also the jaw sides of it-no future displacements or neuritis of mental nerves-practically zero infections and 100% healing of bones-no
need for complex plates and screws that may need future removal; just
steel wires synthesis may suffice, they stay buried into bone callusThe cons are:-expensive, but cheap if you consider the lifetime pros-technically
demanding, few surgeons are experienced or comfortable (though I
personally perform 100% of the chin augmentations by this osseous
method, always after offering the patients both options)-scary for the patient (though not so much if you explain well the stuff around it)You'll
 find in this website dozens of negative experiences with chin implants

them too. I am doing sliding genioplaties for 15 years with the highest 
success and no one patient regreted, totall the opposite, I did many

5k for a chin implant seems a bit excessive. Do your homework and find a better price from a reputable facial plastic surgeon. There is no need for a custom implant unless you have a very unique mandible

The  majority of patient's can use an off-the-shelf sized chin implant. Chin implants are composed of Silastic, and can be custom carved down to meet unique anatomical needs. Custom implants are used for patient  who have severe traumatic and congenital deformities. For many examples, please see the link and the video below

Hi, I have performed many chin augmentations, using chin implants, for over 30 years and the need for a custom made implant remains very, very rare.  There are many sizes from which to choose and minor changes through custom implants will make no discernable aesthetic difference when everything is said and done IMHO.  I have used custom facial implants for cases of previous facial trauma and the cost was several thousand dollars plus $800 or so for the 3-D facial scan and face model creation from which the custom implants are made.
