Am I a good candidate for hairline lowering/forehead reduction surgery? (Photo)

Despite a family history of no hair loss, you need an exam to make sure you do not have androgenic alopecia.  For forehead reduction surgery, you need to see a  doctor for an exam to make sure a forehead reduction is possible in your particular case.In general, forehead reduction surgery involves an incision along your hair line and pulling your scalp forward and cutting out any overlapping skin then sewing back the skin. This obviously requires an exam to make sure your scalp is loose enough and you do not have other un-diagnosed cause of hair loss.Other surgical option is hair transplant surgery. Hair transplant surgery involves harvesting hair from the back of your head and relocating to the front (one by one) to create a new lower hair line. This also requires an exam.

In men who have hairline lowering surgeries, the risk of male pattern balding is always there regardless of the family history you have. This is the reason I don't recommend a surgical hairline loweringprocedure in young  men, but rather a hair transplant lowering procedure which can be just as good, but if balding or thinning should occur after the procedure as a result of genetic balding, more transplants can follow it back easily. As you are only 20, it is too early to get a hair transplant for any reason and you must wait until you are 25 or older before undertaking this because if you do and develop balding behind the corrected hairline, you will not look normal. If you get a hairline advancement surgery you will see a scar. If you have a hair transplant before your balding pattern become evident, then you will be chasing hair transplants for the next decade. . 

As a young man with a very high hairline it is unlikely you should consider a hairline lowering /forehead reduction type of operation at this time in your life. if there are extenuating circumstances it might be considered. More than likely you would have to have a two-stage expander assisted operation.
