Breast Reduction coverage requirements in Alberta?

For all of my career insurance criteria for authorizing breast reduction surgery has always been grams of tissue per breast.
Some providers have a sliding scale based on the patient’s BMI or weight, while other insurance providers may have a set number.
It seems like most insurance companies want plastic surgeons to remove about a pound of tissue sometimes a little more.
It’s possible to remove some breast tissue using Liposuction’s. Typically Liposuction aspirate is measured in milliliters and not weighed by the laboratory. That can be helpful an individual who may need a little bit less tissue removed, but still want to get it covered by insurance. Each plastic surgeon will have their own way of dealing with breast reduction surgery, including whether they accept insurance, and how motivated they are to work with insurance companies, including requesting authorization which can be time-consuming.
If you have not done, so already, I suggest having a few in person consultation with plastic surgeons in your community who accept your form of medical coverage.
