Why does my upper lip stick out so much and curve upwards from profile view? (Photo)

Question

What in the world is wrong with my upper lip? I've never seen anyone who has this issue. Even with people who have larger lips than I, have a flat profile where their upper lip goes downwards instead of upwards/outwards. Does this have to do with the teeth and lip relationship? If I removed teeth for braces and moved my teeth back, would my lip protrusion be fixed? If so, how much would the lips move back in relation to the teeth? Any words of assistance would be appreciated!

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for injections or surgery. Lip augmentation can create a more even appearance of the lips. It can address function and the aesthetic appearance.

this cna be due to your anatomy, bone structure, or even size of the lips . I suggest a formal evaluation.  If you want this changed it may need surgery to fix.  Fillers are always an option for contouring and balancing. Best, Dr. Emer.

It can curve up because of your maxillary bony (and teeth) position, or it may be the shape of your orbicularis oris muscle. In many cases this curvature is a symbol of youth and many people who get lip filler dream of this look! For you, I would start by seeing a cosmetic dentist and/or an oral surgeon for a dental evaluation. Hope this helps!
