How can the small bump on one side of nose after rhinoplasty be fixed? (Photos)

Question

So I just had a Rhinoplasty about 4 months ago, I had it done on June 13, and I realized that a small bump started growing on one side of my nose and the doctor mentioned it was fibrosis? Or something like that and it has grown more over the past months and she said to massage it but that didn’t work. I need to know how can this be fixed ? Will I need another surgery?

In the months following rhinoplasty, there can be swelling and scar tissue issues that arise. Having some lumps and bumps after rhinoplasty is a possibility, but is thankfully rare. I would keep in touch with your surgeon to have the area watched. Based on the photos, I am not sure what is causing the bump, but I suspect that it may need to be removed. You may have a displaced tip cartilage which  could be determined by physical exam. If this is the case, a revision may be needed. There is a remote chance that  a filler might be used in the area adjacent to the "bump" which might mask its appearance. You need to check with the operating  surgeon.

It's important to follow up with your operative surgeon to manage expectations. If there is a permanent small bump present after one year, that can be addressed with a minor touchup procedure revision rhinoplasty.

It is somewhat difficult to tell without examining you in person, but you could have a small nasal tip bossae, caused by  buckling or shifting of nasal tip cartilages as the skin heals and "shrink-wraps" around the nose. I would recommend seeing a facial plastic surgeon so that she or he can feel the tip cartilages to better assess it and decide next steps, which may be a revision surgery vs. injections vs. no treatment.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Four months postoperatively is quite early.  Generally speaking, we cannot judge the final result of a rhinoplasty until approximately one year postoperatively. A bump or contour irregularity may be caused by excessive scarring or fibrosis, or sometimes by a cartilage graft or modified native cartilage. Your surgeon should be able to tell you what she thinks is the most likely cause. If indeed she thinks it is excessive scar formation, perhaps a small steroid injection might be helpful. For the time being it is best to be patient. It is possible that you may need a revision,  but it is too soon right now. All the best.

Thank you for the photos and question and though an examination is needed, the bump appears to be in the lower lateral cartilages and may requir further surgery to fix, but an examination is really needed.  So see your surgeon or other expert in the area and compare recommendations Dr Corbin
