Don't sugar coat the answer. I have a very big forehead (no doubt) and I have always had a high hairline and a genetic cowlick. Is my hairline maturing or am I balding? I have no history of balding on any side of my family. I checked up to three generations. If I am balding, what cosmetic surgeries are available for me to reduce the size of my forehead?

Answer: Genetic hair loss or mature hairline? This is a common question, and the genetics of hair loss mean that you can have male pattern hair loss without a family history - ug, right? SO here 's is a good way to get an early idea if it is a mature hairline or MPHL; look in a mirror and wrinkle your brow as if you are "surprised." Really make those forehead wrinkles. Now, look at the corners - a mature hairline starts about 1cm above where the muscle stops. Much more than that is likely MPHL. A good hair doctor will also be able to look at you and tell, and they will have devices like dermatoscopes (basically a magnifier) to see if there is miniaturization - another hallmark of male pattern hair loss. So between those two measure you should be able to get a good idea. Good Luck!

Answer: Early 20s with hair loss The degree of thinning that you may be experiencing would suggest that you should see a doctor who most likely will get Bulk Measurements of your hair to determine the degree of the thinning that you may be presently having. If the diagnosis is early genetic hair loss (the most common cause of hair loss in young men and you are probably following your father's balding problem), then the best treatment would be the drug finasteride which is highly effective in men of your age and may not only stop the hair loss but possibly reverse it. If you are developing a more advanced balding pattern the best test to get is the HAIRCHECK instrument test which will determine the Bulk Measurements of your hair and this will show, over a one-year time frame, how effective the treatment will be. Once you know this information, then you and your doctor need to develop a MASTER PLAN which will define what you need
