Hollow under areola. Any suggestions?

For as long as I remember, whenever I touch my areola, I feel a hollow space under it. Is this a sign of gynecomastia? If it helps, I also have puffy nipples.

Hi John, Thank you for your question regarding gynecomastia and puffy nipples. It is difficult to answer your question accurately without a thorough physical examination. However, from your history, it sounds like you do have mild Type 1 gynecomastia. This can usually be treated with a relatively minor outpatient liposuction procedure. During male breast liposuction surgery, the size of the nipples, or more accurately the areoles, can be reduced. Please consult an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. The male breast is composed of glandular tissue and fatty tissue. An excess in either type of tissue can cause the chest to take on the look of gynecomastia. Gynecomastia can affect men of all different body types.
