Is Bactroban OK to use inside the nose if there is no infection?

Sometimes after surgery, the "dissolvable" stitches remain and cause continual crusting.  The bactroban will stave off any subclinical infection, hydrate the area and potentially lead to healing.  Follow the instructions of your surgeon and this will likely lead to a simple resolution.  Good luck!

Bactroban is a great hypoallergenic antibiotic ointment, but it should not be used indiscriminately
for your nose. If you have crusting inside your nose you should go see your
Plastic Surgeon or Otolaryngologist first
to see why you have this problem and get a diagnosis. There
is no reason to be using Bactroban if you have normal nasal
function.

Dear suseso1It is helpful to use an antibiotic ointment after rhinoplasty if you have excessive crusting. The decrease in bacterial load will help your nasal mucosa recover faster and the crusting to decrease and stop earlier. Bactroban nasal is a good choice.

Short term use of Bactroban will not harm you.  But after several weeks you can develop an allergy that will lead to redness and swelling of the mucous membranes.  What you really want is the lubricant, and Vaseline will wotk fine.  Also I recommend saline nose drops or spray (Ayr) available over the counter.  Above all, keep your fingers and Q-tip out of you nose
