Removing grafts from nose I didn't ask for. Risks?

I recently found out my doctor put grafts in my nose and I never asked for this. He put alar rim grafts and and columellar strut. Can I get these removed? What are the risks? I want a nose that feels like a nose. No point in having a nice nose that feels like a potato on the face. Never asked for grafting. Was under the impression my nose would feel soft again after healing.

I  consider removing the grafts to be a mistake.  After nasal surgery a nose is never as malleable (soft) as before surgery.  Scar tissue does soften over time and if you are pleased with the cosmetic result I would allow at least 12-18 months after surgery  for the scar tissue to soften, the swelling to resolve and the sensation to return to normal.  You did not mention  how long it is since her surgery.  This will also dictate the way the nose feels.  A columellar strut is there to support the tip of the nose and keep it from collapsing and the alar rim grafts are in place to support the external nasal valve and shape the margin of the nostril.  If the structural grafts are removed they will be replaced with scar tissue which may also feel unnatural too and it can distort the appearance of the nose.  If you can breathe  and are pleased with the cosmetic result leave it be.

Hi there, sorry you aren't happy with the grafts.  I think another important consideration is how does your nose look?  If the parts are in good balance, then removing alar rim grafts and columellar strut can adversely change the appearance of the nose.  These grafts are usually placed in order to ensure proper support and positioning of the nostrils and nasal tip.  Sort of like the struts used in propping up the canvas of a tent.  Removal of the support struts will likely cause some loss of support and change the outside appearance, possibly in an unfavorable way.  Now, if you don't like the appearance of your nose, then it may be possible to alter these grafts but, again, taking them out entirely may lead to undesirable changes in external appearance.  Please make sure to think this through completely and that your surgeon is experienced in this regard.  Best of luck to you!

Removing grafts from the nose may alter the function and the shape of it, depending upon what type of grafts were placed. It's also important to wait at least one year to allow full healing before undergoing a revision rhinoplasty.
