Crooked nose or crooked face? Would a rhinoplasty procedure to straighten my nose be beneficial or not? (photos)

Question

I had my nose punched and headbutted about 4 years back. I can't tell if it is crooked from the physical damage or if my face is naturally crooked and causing my nose to be crooked. I originally thought I had hemifacial microsomia but after a consultation with a doctor with these photos I was told against it. Would a rhinoplasty procedure to straighten my nose be beneficial or not? It looks straight to me in the mirror but crooked in pics. Thanks a lot.

Facial asymmetry is very common, and almost every one has some degree of it. The crooked nose from trauma can be re-set straight and refined. To reset the nasal bones  requires osteotomies to straighten and narrow them. Occasionally, a spreader graft is also required to build up a concave upper lateral cartilage in the middle portion of the nose when it's crooked.  A tip rhinoplasty is required to straighten the nasal tip cartilages when they are  off center. Dear Bcole, Facial asymmetry is common in most people and also seen in patients who have undergone trauma. If you do not like the way your nose looks then rhinoplasty surgery would be beneficial to refine some of your issues. With your strong male facial features it is pertinent that your rhinoplasty is done very naturally allowing you slight modifications for better balance. An examination will show if you need any work on the internal structures of your nose due to the trauma. If indeed you have any deviation of the septum then a septorhinoplasty would be suggested which would address both the function and aesthetics of your nose. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
