Follow-up: Is it okay to smoke marijuana before my BBL?

Good afternoon,Our practice will not operate on a patient if they have nicotine or THC in their system. Smoking can affect the healing process and therefore it's possible for the results to not be the same as a non-smoker. Also, many of the papers used to smoke marijuana may contain nicotine which can cause surgical complications. It is advised that a patient not smoke at least 1 week prior to surgery. However, It is best to discuss this with your physician during the consultation. I hope this helps.Best Regards,

Thank you for your question, smoking hinders your ability to heal properly, increases risks, it could cause complications and may affect your results. I require patients to stop smoking at least 2 months before surgery and hopefully not smoke again. 

Thank you for your followup. No surgeon is going to give you a green light to smoke anything prior to surgery. Sorry. Even if there is no nicotine, the smoking will affect your airway and your anesthetic. Best to follow advice and avoid all substances prior to surgery. Better safe than sorry.Good luck!

Thank you for your question. When it comes to the use of marijuana, smoked or injested, different surgeon's have different protocols. If your surgeon won't operate if you test positive for marijuana, you may have to reschedule your surgery date which may carry a cancellation fee. Good luck to you!

Smoking before and/or after surgery can impair wound healing and survival of fat. I instruct my patients  to stop smoking one month before surgery. Consult your surgeon for pre op recommendations.

Thanks for the question! I still would not smoke anything before your procedure. I realize that it can be very difficult to stop, but I would still try your best. The less you smoke the better. Smoking before or after surgery may affect the take of your fat and can result in wound healing issues. Even if you're able to cut back a little that would be best. ~Dr. Sieber
