Do sliding genioplasties shorten the chin visually?

This is an odd question, but I was just curious if sliding genioplasties shorten the front appearance of the chin visually? I am female and my chin looks recessed/set back from a profile view but a little overly long from the front. Thank you for your time.

Usually the results of a sliding genioplasty will lengthen the the lower face and provide improved balance as a recessive chin always appears short on frontal view. Measurements can be taken off a CT to determine if the chin length is excessive. If the distance between the lower teeth and chin is excessive, a small wedge of bone can be removed to decrease the height and provide harmonious facial balance.

hello bunbunbo, this is a good question. Genioplasty does not by default shorten your face; however, the angle of the cut CAN be designed to slightly lengthen or shorten your face, depending on what is necessary for the best facial harmony. Hope this is helpful, best, Brian

A sliding genioplasty will only shorten the chin IF that is a deliberate maneuver done in surgery for positioning the bone. Simply moving it forward by itself will not make it look shorter.
