Will SculpSure leave "loose" skin or does it have the ability to melt fat and tighten the skin?

All lasers, which heat the
skin, do have the ability to create some skin tightening effect. This has not
been clinically studied in patients using SculpSure (yet!), but anecdotally, I
have seen skin tightening, and so have my colleagues.

One explanation may be that
the gradual removal of the fat cells over time allows the skin an easier
transition, more like when you lose weight naturally, and that allows the skin
to tighten in its own, natural way. Think about how skin tightens when a woman
loses 30 pounds from diet and exercise, over a few months, versus when a woman
loses 30 pounds quickly after giving birth.

However, I have experienced
this skin tightening in the abdomens of female patients in their 50s with grown
children who have had a stomach pouch since they gave birth. Normally, that’s
not a patient I would expect to see skin tightening in without surgical
intervention. I cannot say all of my patients have experienced the same level
of skin tightening, and a lot of that is going to be dependent upon your skin
quality and elasticity, which likely varies across your treatment areas.

My suggestion would be to
use SculpSure to reduce your unwanted fat, and if the skin tightening is less
than you hoped for, to consider Thermage or Exillis for non-invasive skin
tightening.

Sculpsure is a noninvasive 1060nm diode laser treatment that removes up to 25% of stubborn fat in the treated area in 25 minutes.It is FDA approved for the abdomen and flanks. It is safe if you get pregnant in the future.The body contouring effects are seen in as quick as six weeks with final results at 12 weeks. The results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight and health.The laser targets and destroys the fat cells only which are then naturally removed from the body. Since the laser does not affect the skin or muscle it can be used on all skin colors and there has been no reported incidents of burns when treated by a properly trained physician. It is protective since it alternates heating and cooling. It has four applicators that can be customized to treat the areas of stubborn fat. If a second treatment is needed we wait at least six weeks and usually closer to 12. There is no downtime and you can resume your normal activities right after the treatment. If you have loose skin before you are not a good candidate for any non invasive fat device as the skin will be too lose after.  Some like sculpsure, thermi and coolsculpting give a level of skin tightening but its not nearly what a surgery/liposuction would do.  I suggest seeing an expert for an evaluation.  Best, Dr. Emer.

SculpSure was FDA approved to reduce fat in the abdomen and flanks.  That being said, there may be some effect of skin tightening due to the heat produced during the procedure.  Also, the loss of fat is a slow process which allows your skin to shrink down more easily (unlike with liposuction where an immediate reduction of the fat layer requires faster skin retraction).  SculpSure can be used on other parts of the body as long as there is fat and the applicators can fit.  We have had success using it on all the areas you have described.

SculpSure is designed to eradicate fat in the treatment area. It is not a skin tightening device. Having said that, since SculpSure is a laser that uses heat to melt the fat, it has been associated with skin tightening. Whether or not it would be enough for your individual needs is impossible to say without examining you in person. Hope this helps.

appreciate your concern.The preliminary studies are not claiming skin tightening since the laser is targeted to the deeper fat layer. However, moderate effects have being found, due to the overall reduction and inflammation generated with the treatment. Finally, make sure that you have a
