What causes Sculpsure sore?

Sculpsure is a noninvasive 1060nm diode laser treatment that removes up to 25% of stubborn fat in the treated area in 25 minutes.It is FDA approved for the abdomen and flanks. It is safe if you get pregnant in the future.The body contouring effects are seen in as quick as six weeks with final results at 12 weeks. The results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight and health.The laser targets and destroys the fat cells only which are then naturally removed from the body. Since the laser does not affect the skin or muscle it can be used on all skin colors and there has been no reported incidents of burns when treated by a properly trained physician. It is protective since it alternates heating and cooling. It has four applicators that can be customized to treat the areas of stubborn fat. If a second treatment is needed we wait at least six weeks and usually closer to 12. There is no downtime and you can resume your normal activities right after the treatment. There may be some soreness in the area for a few days for which you can take ibuprofen or tylenol. A cold compress can also be used.Sculpsure is not used for skin tightening however some of her patients have seen this. If more skin tightening is needed we have combined this with thermi or Ulthera for a complete treatment. Sculpsure is recommended for stubborn areas of fat that are not being lost by diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss treatmentSince I have both a coolsculpting and sculpsure I am working on protocols of utilizing both of these depending upon what areas need to be treated and the response to the treatment. I have used sculpsure on other areas other than the abdomen with very good results. Thank you for your question. Some patients feel tenderness after the procedure, but it subsides quickly as patients tend to enjoy a comfortable recovery with little to no downtime. Most patients liken the feeling to a feeling like after an intense workout. Always work with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Hello there.  I'm glad to hear that you decided to try this phenomenal treatment. Post procedure soreness is due to all the fat cells dying and causing an inflammatory process in the area which was treated. It is a good sign and can last up to 2 weeks. As you correctly stated, the soreness only becomes apparent when you actually touch the area. If you feel uncomfortable, you can simply take Tylenol for the discomfort. I do not advise to use ice or NSAID's like motored, Advil, Aleve, etc as you want the inflammation to keep destroying the fat cells. Hope this helps. Best. Dr.Avaliani

Hi Mommy0613,Thank you for your question.  Having had the treatment myself, I can tell you that soreness is to be expected and will resolve.  There can also be a minor amount of swelling, which is all related to the inflammatory process involved in clearing the treated fat. It is normal to have soreness after noninvasive treatments. The irritation is much less than any other device (ie coolsculpting or liposonix).  This means you likely got a good result.  Start exercising now and enhance the process.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Soreness in the treated area can develop in the first week after a SculpSure treatment.  It sometimes can even last 2-3 weeks but generally is mild.  It is likely due to your body's inflammatory reaction that occurs due to fat destruction by the SculpSure laser.  It is not an indication of anything bad and is a normal process.

Some patients do develop some mild tenderness to an area treated with SculpSure.  This normally is very temporary and resolves completely.  The energy from the laser, which destroys the fat cells, is what can cause the tenderness.  Tenderness is not a good or bad sign, but just a side effect in some patients.  

Yes. The soreness means that the treatment is working. It results from the fat cells in the targeted area dying off and causing inflammation. So, embrace the soreness. It will diminish with time. Best of luck.

There will be mild soreness after a SculpSure treatment.  This is the body's response to the injured fat cells and is actually a desirable result.  Then we know the fat cells were destroyed and the body is working to eliminate them.  Massage the area for 5 minutes twice/day and the soreness will resolve in a couple of weeks.
