Is cosmetic surgery taxable?

Sorry for the possibly dumb question but it just occurred to me that the quote I got from my surgeon for rhinoplasty doesnt mention tax. Will I be charged tax on my procedure? Location: California

Not a stupid question at all!  There is no sales tax on cosmetic surgery.  This is a service, not a product.

This is a great question.  It varies by state.  For example, in New Jersey, there is a 6% tax on cosmetic surgery, whether paid by insurance or not.  There is not tax in California.  There is no Federal tax currently to my knowledge.  However, there has been a proposal circulating in the senate to impose a 5% tax on cosmetic surgery.  Of course, any products that are purchased from a cosmetic surgeon's office are taxable.  Best wishes.
