Botox in chin has created a big bump? (Photos)

Question

Two days ago I received botox in my chin to get rid of dimples. Two days later I have a large bump in my chin (see picture). Also, my smile is being affected - mostly lower lip doesn't go down. Like, my bottom teeth don't show when I smile now. If I need more botox, can you tell me exactly where I should have it. Below bump? Side of bump? And should I worry about my smile becoming even more changed from additional botox?

Botox can take up to 2 weeks for full effect. The bump in your chin may improve during this time. If it doesn't then you will need some more Botox to the chin to balance it out. Your altered smile is likely due to poor placement of the Botox which has affected the muscles that pull your mouth downward when you smile. This may not get better until the Botox wears off in 3-4 months. Sounds like you may need to see a more experienced injector next time. Best wishes.

I would recommend additional Botox to the area below the "bump"; this is the Mentalis muscle and relaxation of this muscle with 3-5 units into each muscle should eliminate the dimpling. If you are having trouble depressing your lip, a different muscle called the depressor labii inferioris has been affected and this will need time to revert back to normal. The effects of Botox take 3-4 months to disappear.

Over the next few days, you may see improvement in the bump as your Botox effects the muscle lower in the chin. If not, you will need some more Botox below the bump. Right now, the muscle below the bump still lifts the chin creating the bump. Your smile should not get worse from the additional Botox since it will be lower. Next time, make sure the Botox is placed in the lower part of the chin, not the upper part.Andrew Campbell, M.D.

It is still too soon to see the final result from the Botox, is important to wait at least 1 week to see the complete effect of the Botox. Looking at your photos, it seems that you may benefit more from fillers on the chin than Botox, because you have a receding chin and that gives you the dimples, you need to have more support on the chin so your Mentalis muscle is not active all the time, and then the dimples will be gone.

This leaves part of the mentalis muscle untreated.  More botox is needed to balance this service.  In the future, I recommend avoiding botox for this area and using fillers instead.  The question is whether your current injector understands the anatomy well enough to provide this service for you?

Although it might seem alarming, the bump you’re seeing and the changes to your smile may still smooth out on their own over the next two weeks. Because of this, I would suggest giving it some more time before inquiring about additional injections to fix the problem. If you still don’t notice an improvement at the two-week mark after your injections, talk with your provider about the best possible fix, which may include additional BOTOX® injections.

It's too soon to judge the  effects of your Botox treatment which can  take up to 14 days to settle in. If your chin does not improve over the next week to 2 weeks, I would followup with your injector. More Botox maybe required to completely relax the muscle.

2 days is not long enough to make any determination of the effect but you may have some swelling from the injection which will go away. give it at least 10 days to see what the results really are

This issue sometimes occur early on after injection when some muscles were affected by botox more than others and compensate. As botox diffuses and its full effect takes place the bump would resolve after 2 weeks. If not some additional injection into hyperactive muscle should eliminate this appearance.
