I had a small lipoma on the back of my scalp removed by a dermatologist. 2 weeks later it grew back. I had it removed again. She said that it was deep so she couldn't remove it all and I'd have to go to a surgeon if I wanted it all gone. Both biopsies were benign. If I go to a surgeon, will it all be able to be removed? Will I have to go under general anesthesia?

Answer: Can lipoma on scalp be permanently removed? Lipomas normally can be removed permanently by surgery. If the lipoma is not completely removed, it can grow back. Most lipomas on the scalp can be removed just with local anesthesia in the office. An examination of you would be helpful to determine if the lipoma on your scalp could be removed in this manner.

Answer: Lipoma Removal from scalp Typically lipomas can be removed in the office and often one surgery can accomplish this. Please make sure you see only a board-certified, fellowship trained surgeon with expertise facial plastic surgery and scalp cyst/lipoma removal. In my practice this is a cosmetic procedure not covered by health insurance. Perhaps your current provider is no longer the best option for you. Good luck. Damon B.
