I had my drains removed yesterday after breast reduction Feb 19th. I still have some clear fluid draining out on the one side. Is this normal and should I put gauze or some kind of covering on it. Thank you
Answer: Cover Drain Site A small amount of drainage 48-72 hours after drain removal is normal. You should keep the area clean, apply antibiotic ointment twice a day and keep it covered with a bandaid or piece of gauze. It should heal without incident.

Answer: Drainage after Removal of Drains after Breast Reduction?
Congratulations on having undergone the breast reduction procedure; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform.
It is quite “normal” to have some drainage from drain sites 1 to 2 days after drains have been removed. Placing sterile gauze over the drain site is a good idea.
Best wishes.

Answer: Drains after breast reduction
It is normal to have some fluid leaking from the former drain site. Usually this happens for 1-2 days after removing a drain, if the amount of drainage was around 30 cc or less for the 24 hours before removing it. If the drain was removed with higher output, it may last a little longer. Yes, you should put clean dry gauze at the site of drainage, and change it when it's wet, or at least once a day. The color of the fluid can be anywhere from clear yellow or pink or reddish-yellow. If there is any odor or cloudiness, you should inform your surgeon.

Answer: A small amount serous drainage after drain removal is common.
I don't use drains for breast reduction. This is a matter of personal opinion. When drains are used there may be a day or so a serious drainage through the drain hole after it is removed.

Answer: Drainage after breast reduction
Having some clear drainage from drain sites after removal is completely normal. The drain sites will usually scab over within 2-3 days. It is okay to cover the drain sites with gauze until the drainage stops. If the drainage continues for several days, contact your surgeon's office. Good luck!
