Weird brown scarring 6 months after breast reduction. Does this look normal? (Photo)

Question

I had a breast reduction 6 months ago and the scarring under my breasts look brown and patchy. It’s the area where all the sutures would have been held together. I started out using scar stickies and then moved to silicone scar gel. Does this look normal? Or is it too early to tell?

A Consultation is the best way to find out what you need, there are several options to diminish the scar through non-surgical treatments to manage a scar process. I understand you are concerned with the appearance of your scars. As your scars heal, it should flatten out and lighten. Loss of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation may also be experienced but will resolve over time. Always follow your surgeon's post operative care instructions when it comes to scar management to avoid any complications like infection and for faster healing and recovery.

Hello there, 
Your scars appear good. Its natural course of healing. Just give some more time. It may improve by the end of 1 year. Meanwhile you can continue scar creams and massaging of the area. 
If later also scar appears big, it may need a scar revision. Keep in touch with your plastic surgeon.

Scars mature over time.  If after a year you are still unhappy with the appearance you can consider scar revision.  Until then you can continue using silicone scar gel which may improve the appearance if used consistently.

Hi and welcome to our forum!From your photographs, I note that your surgical scars are still red, suggesting that the healing process is not completed. It may take 12-18 months for the scars to flatten and lose their redness. There are areas of scar broadening and hyperpigmentation, suggesting a degree of initial delayed healing. I would recommend conservative follow up with sun avoidance to the affected areas for at least another 6 months or so before considering scar revision, as many scars will spontaneously improve significantly. If there is no significant improvement, scar revision may be indicated. 15% of cosmetic surgeries may benefit from a secondary touch up procedure.Best wishes...
