I had 1 vial of Sculptra injected 2 days ago. I only wanted fullness in apples of my cheeks. That day & today I see an overfilled unnatural looking cheekbone area yet still flat in cheek. I called with concern & was told they have to fan into cheekbone area also if they're doing apple. Is it true that you must go up and out to peripheral of face when filling apple area? Also, is the final result usually as full as it looks hours after injecting? Thanks so much for any insight.
Answer: Swelling after Sculptra Thank you for your question and for submitting your photo. It's difficult to make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person. That said, it's not uncommon to experience swelling for up to 2 weeks after any filler injections. Sculptra treatments also typically involve injecting a large volume of fluid into the face, which can exacerbate swelling as well. This is likely contributing to the "overfilled" look that you are currently noticing. Once the swelling subsides, it will take 6-8 weeks to see the initial results of your treatment. Your current appearance is not an indicator of what your final results will be. In face, the results from a single treatment with 1 vial of Sculptra are generally quite subtle - even younger patients often opt to have a series of treatments to achieve their desired results. That said, while it's difficult to make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person or reviewing your photos, I generally prefer Sculptra for overall facial revolumization and collagen stimulation, and often use it for patients who need volume throughout their faces. If patients are only interested in adding volume to a very specific area (like the apples of the cheeks), hyaluronic acid fillers like Voluma are often a much better option, and provide almost instantaneous and long-lasting results. I would recommend following-up with your injector if you have any concerns. Best of luck!

Answer: Sculptra Hello, Sculptra works by inducing collagen formation which can take 6-8 weeks before you see noticeable volume in the cheeks. The current overfilled look is likely due to swelling and the product injected. Typically, the body metabolizes the product in 1-2 weeks and gradually collagen will form. Your current result is not the final result seen at 6 months.Chase Lay, MD

Answer: Sculptra and Swelling The final result will not appear as “over-filled” as seen immediately after injection. The swelling after injections with Sculptra takes about 1-2 days to resolve as your body needs to re-absorb the volume of water that is injected in the treatment area. Make sure to massage the treated area as directed by your board certified dermatologist

Answer: Sculptra swelling Without seeing you I can only offer my experience with injecting other patients. I reconstitute my sculptra with 9-10 cc of water, which reduces the risk of nodules. This means that patients get a large volume of fluid injected into the face each session. Further, there is some swelling associated with injection. I warn my patients that the way they look the first few days is not the way they will look in 2 weeks. Generally the fullness goes down after 1-2 weeks and then fullness slowly returns as the product takes effect and new collagen is produced. The final result will take about 6 months. I also tell my patients to massage after each injection. 5-5-5; five minutes, five times per day for five days. that will help distribute the fluid and minimize any lumps. I do agree that fanning the injection will ultimately create a more natural appearance. Best of luck Dr Rodman

Answer: Sculptra - Stimulates Collagen Hi - Sculptra is one of my favorite fillers because it recontours the face by stimulating your own collagen through a series of treatments over approximately 90 days. I do not think you can tell the final results based on what you see the day or two after Sculptra injections. It is best to give it time, to do your at home massage for 5 days, and to keep your follow up appointment, which should be 4-8 weeks from your treatment to reassess and discuss if another Sculptra treatment is warranted. Best to you.
